Tolerant of Some Shade

Planting roses in shady spots adds colour to overlooked garden areas. While most roses need ample sunlight, the varieties listed below thrive with just 4-5 hours of good sun daily. Avoid planting where overhanging branches or dry spots with root competition exist. Repeat-flowering English Roses, Hybrid Musk's, Rugosas, and Ground Covers do well in partial shade. Many once-flowering varieties, like Gallicas, Damasks, and Albas, also suit partial shade. Climbing and rambling roses listed below are ideal for open, north-facing walls or shady spots.
